BC Access Awareness Day, Wheelchair Dance and Disability Music

The Gathering Festival is over now. We hold a number of free workshops and activities throughout the 4 weeks of the festival in May and June. In most cases workshop participant get to share their creations at the Emery Barnes Park Community Celebration on Sat June 20th 2015.

BC Access Awareness Day: On Saturday June 4th from 5:00-7:00pm, the Gathering Festival will partner with SPARC BC to present an afternoon of wheelchair dance and music by members of Wheel Voices and the Vancouver Adapted Music Society. Wheelchair Dance

Wheelchair Dance Workshops: Olesia Kornienko, the only wheelchair Ballroom dancer in BC, will lead three Wheelchair Dance workshops on Tuesdays from 1:30-4:00pm (June 7th, 14th) in the fitness room at the Gathering Place. Both wheelchair-bound and able-bodied people are encouraged to come and learn how to dance together. Their achievements will be presented at the community celebration June 18. Adapted Music Workshops: These workshops will take place Fridays from 3:00-5:00pm (June 3th, 10th, and 17th), and encourages people, specifically those with disabilities, to learn how to play adapted music. Singing facilitated by Sheila Lee (Vancouver Adapted Music Society) and percussion by Michael Meroniuk (Gathering Place). Their achievements will also be presented at the community celebration June 18.
