Vancity Theatre Screening

A program of short films and in-person commentary by Indigenous filmmakers and activists working to communicate the importance of ancestral cultivation practices for food security in a pressurized ecology, shaped by colonization and globalization.

“The food sovereignty movement is building around the world and…it can be described as the newest and most innovative approach to achieving the end goal of long term food security … Indigenous related knowledge, values and wisdom built up over thousands of years are enabling a specific policy approach to addressing the underlying issues impacting Indigenous peoples and our ability to respond to our own needs for healthy, culturally adapted Indigenous foods.” (indigenousfoodsystems.org)

Confirmed filmmakers include Dorothy Christian, Kamala Todd, Lindsey Mae Willie, Andrea Cessna, Wilson Mendes, Murray Bush, Sharon Kravitz, Jaya Ashley, Simon Wolf, Luke Barnesmoore, Ronnie Dean Harris, Julian Napoleon.

Presented by the Gathering Festival, Cineworks and Vancity Theatre in collaboration with Indigenous Food Sovereignty activist and policy advisor, Dawn Morrison.
