This seminar explores cultural practices and traditions for remembering and honouring the dead. Each year we will explore different cultural practices. In 2018 we explore Iranian, Mexican and British traditions. Topics will include shrines, ‘guising’ or dressing up in costume, begging for treats celebrations and personal reflection.
A meal of traditional foods eaten in honour of the dead will be served during the discussion. This will include Pan de Muertos (Mexican Bread of the Dead), Gheymeh Polo (Iranian stew with rice) and Soul Cakes (a small Celtic cake that children and the poor would beg for in return for prayers for the dead).
This event, on Oct 30, is by invitation. For more information contact Alex at the Gathering Place 604-665-2391
